Glass Hand Dissolving: Los Gringos Locos
vs Blue Panther & Volodor (AAA 11/28/93)
Right off the rip, and I suppose this might be the expectation, man, Eddy and Barr are a great heel team and going up against Blue Panther, who is being mobbed by fans walking to the ring, these guys don't have to do a ton to get the crowd invested. I think the structure is a bit lacking because of that, there are heat segments and a shine, but nothing is really all that defined or prolonged. At some point, Eddy sells a backbreaker by scotting on his knees halfway across the ring; a great stooging hell move. Things really start to pick up when Art Barr rips off Volodor's mask, puts it on to go over and punch Panther, and throws it to Eddy to put back on Volodor to avoid the DQ. With his mask back on, Volodor is back up and fighting off both. Just when it seems that Volodor's turned the tide, Blue Panther decks Volodor. Eddy hits a sort of bridging SOS for the win. Not a great match, but boy does this seem like a great heel team.
vs Heavy Metal & Fuerza Guerrera (AAA 11/28/93)
We start this off brawling, and Heavy Metal and Fuerza get an early advantage. Barr starts off as the legal man, but Eddy tags in and doesn't fare much better in his initial attempts either. Things aren't looking good for Los Gringos Locos, but Eddy bumps off a clothesline and rolls to the floor. He uses this to take a break. With the momentum broken, things turn around. Eddy grabs Fuerza and drags him to the outside and hits his head off the ring post. Eddy and Art hop back in the ring and go after Heavy Metal. They spend an extended period working over Heavy Metal, but eventually Fuerza recovers and comes after Grinogs Locos. It doesn't get them very fair. Barr brains Metal on a ringpost, Eddy suplexes Fuerza on the floor outside. Oder gets restored and the rules start being applied, and the match becomes Gringos Locos working over Heavy Metal. Again, Fuerza tries to help out, but he isn't up to the challenge. Eddy takes him out and starts working on removing his mask. He eventually gets it off, and that basically makes Fuerza a non-issue for the rest of the match. I don't exactly know why Heavy Metal gets awarded the win here. Eddy hits a bridging German, and Fuerza breaks up the fall, and then about 15 seconds later, the ref awards the match to Heavy Metal. He doesn't pin or submit anybody; at that moment, Art and Eddy aren't doing anything particularly vile to get DQ's, but that's the match. Another solid outing, not quite on the level of the last match, but not bad.
vs Heavy Metal & Latin Lover (AAA 3/12/1994)
Eddy starts off with Heavy Metal, and the opening part of the match is just Eddy hitting big moves. After a pin, Latin Lover comes in and gets tangled up with Art Barr. They get into it on the outside, and something that sticks out to me is how quickly and fervently Eddy comes to help out Art on the outside. When things come back to the ring, it's a lot of Art and Latin Lover, first with Art on offense, but quickly, Latin Lover turns the tables and fires back. Art takes a wild Terry Funk bump to the outside, one of those awkward, if this was fake, why would you fall like that bumps. When he comes back in, he's chopping for his life, but it only fires up Latin Lover more. Barr pouts on the outside, and when he finally gets back into the ring, Heavy Metal is waiting for him. Eddy gets in instead, and when Eddy doesn't have any luck, Art steps in, takes one kick and rolls back out to the outside to complain about it. When Barr gets back in, he has some limited success, but he can't keep up with Heavy Metal and Latin Lover. Eddy goes after Latin Lover on the outside, but in doing so, opens himself up to a dive from Heavy Metal, but Eddy catches him. Eddy holds MEtal, but as Art Barr dives, Heavy Metal moves, and Art nails Eddy. Gringos Locos get counted out, and Heavy Metal and Latin Lover win. What a performance by Art Barr in this match, not a great guy, a bad guy, not somebody who needs to be pumped up, but fuck was he good in this match.
vs Chicano Power & Misterioso (AAA 12/24/1994)
So, very technically, even though most people don't refer to them as such, the team of Eddy and Art Barr is La Pareja del Terror. Later on, they added members and became Los Gringos Locos; the next two matches are Eddy and Art taking on members of their own faction. In this match, things seem to be cordial, but during the exchange of pleasantries, Misterioso decks Eddy, and things are off. Chicano Power and Misterioso attempt to isolate Art Barr, and that works for a bit, but quickly, La Pareja del Terror are back on the offensive. Within a few minutes, Bass has hit a frog splash on Chicano Power, and a few seconds later, Eddy hits a superplex, which Barr follows up with another frog splash. This is short but interesting. Eddy and Art get it over quickly and with some malice. Not a match you need to seek out, but a neat piece of business.
vs Konnan & Madonna's Boyfriend (AAA 12/24/1994)
Eddy and Art, having seen how it went last time, blindside their friends to start this and start stomping them out in the ring. Art and Eddy focus on Spicolli, and Konnan is relegated to waiting on the apron for big portions of the opening of the match. Art and Eddy do a really great job of bating Konnan, allowing Spicolo to get close to the tag and then cutting him off. At some point, Konnan has had enough, and hops in the ring and starts clearing house. He and Art Barr square off, and it's pretty solid and pretty heated. I think things fall apart here a bit. Eddy and Art pout in the ring, and Konnan doesn't go after them, so they just get a short break, and when that's over, they double-team Konnan until Spicolli recovers and makes the save. Louie doesn't have much in the tank, and quickly Eddy is hitting a sunset flip powerbomb from the top rope, and Konnan makes the save. Konnan, likewise, doesn't have much to offer either, and he takes a superplex/flog splash combo, but Konnan kicks out. Spicolli buys some time, and then it's Konnan's turn. Eddy throws Konnan out and hits a splash, Spicoli misses a dive, and then Art Barr accidentally hits a dive on Eddy, leaving everyone down on the outside. Konnan and Spicolli roll into the ring to beat the count, and the match is over. I liked the first half of this. I didn't get a lot out of the second half. It doesn't help that this is the same finish as Heavy Metal/Latin Lover match.
Verdict
Outside of the Worlds Collide match, which is one of the greatest tag matches of all time, these are all of the 2-on-2 matches these two guys had. There are plenty of trios matches, but they only have 6 straight-up tag matches on tape. Their run is short, and that's a shame, but in a short time, they quickly became a great team, with their run culminating in an all-time great match. A heel team that could stooge, look good when on offense, and was capable of great matches. That's quite a resume.
