Glass Hand Disolving: Demolition
vs The Killer Bees (2/21/1988)
The Bees do everything right. They work hard, they make tags, they do what they can to win the match, but they just can't. Demolition does some of their standard pummeling, but this is a lot of Bees, and when they really start to get somewhere, Ax hits Brunzell in the neck with a cane, and the match is over shortly thereafter.
vs The Brain Busters (7/18/1989)
Demolition are the champions here, and this is two-out-of-three falls. Demolition wins the first fall. Tully stoogets around early, but eventually the match evens out. Smash pins Arn, and we're onto the second fall. This match is like a playoff hockey game. Both teams are constantly committing penalties, the ref isn't really interested in calling them, and one team, Demolition, is getting cheered because they're the home team. The Brainbusters get a little extra grimy and take control of the second fall, but only for a bit. Things break down into a brawl, and the ref throws the fall out in the Brainbuster's favor. At that same time, Andre the Giant is heading toward the ring. The story of the third fall is attrition. Arn and Tully are worn out. They fight to gain an advantage, but can't, so again it devolves into a brawl. In the melee, Andre slides in a chair, Tully nails Smash with a chair, and the Brainbusters are new champs.
vs British Bulldogs (8/6/1988)
This is good. Both teams get to look good in spots, the Demolition beatdown spots are always so good and a sterling trademark. Things are pretty 50/50 until Mr. Fuji and his cane get involved. From there, it's Dynamite fighting from underneath before he can tag in Davey. Davey clears house, and the Bulldogs are on fire. Demolition turns it into a brawl to try and turn the match around. Fuji gets involved, the numbers get to be too much, Ax cheapshots Dynamite, and Demolition wins.
vs Rythym & Blues (5/14/1989)
This isn't exactly Rythym & Blues, Valentine still had blonde hair, but you get the idea. I'm surprised by how much offense Honky, and to a lesser extent Valentine, get here. It's a short match; it's not like they had a lot of time to fill and needed the face time to take up a portion of the match. Part of that is due to this being part of the Valentine/Garvin feud, but Demolition could have eaten up the six minutes. Ultimately, this all boils down to Honky cheating, and Garvin catching it and screwing over Valentine. Demolition did stuff that looked good, and didn't do anything that looked bad.
vs Andre the Giant & Giant Baba (4/13/1990)
Why does Darsow have a reputation for being a weak link in this team? His strikes look good here; he sells for Baba like a champ. I think he generally looks pretty strong doing the beatdown spots. I don't know, I can get behind Smash, that's what I'm saying. Demolition takes turns beating Andre, until Andre brabs what amounts to a one-handed gator-roll to gain back the momentum and tags in Baba. Now it's Baba's turn to get the beating. He doesn't take it for very long; he chops his way out of the corner, hits a neckbreaker on Smash, and tags Andre back in. Andre is back in for retribution, and he takes it to both Ax and Smash. The rules go to the wayside after a while, with all four wrestlers in the ring. In the cerfufffle, Andre hits an elbox on Ax, Baba runs interference, and the Giants get the win.
Verdict
A solid team, but the highs aren't very high in these matches. Smash is better than I've been lead to believe, and nothing is bad or stupid, which goes a long way for me. I don't know if this is a Top 25 team, but probably maybe a Top 50 team.
